Hi! I’m Ariane Beyer, I’m 16 and I am the 2016 Perth International Arts Festival Young Creative for Dance. I attend John Curtin College of the Arts, where I am a part of the Dance program and I am about to start Year 12. I am a member of the Youth Ensemble and Elite Training Squad at Co3 Contemporary Dance Company.

The show I’m most looking forward to seeing at this year’s Festival is Apocrifu choreographed by Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui. At the 2015 Festival I was lucky enough to see Rising in which Cherkaoui choreographed one of the dances for Aakash Odedra. I found his piece, Constellation completely mesmerising. Apocrifu features a classical dancer, a contemporary dancer, a circus artist and an all-male Corsican vocal ensemble, A Filetta. I’m fascinated to see how these different styles will be combined.

I’m excited to be a Young Creative, to branch out and be inspired by the range of shows that the Festival has to offer. I tend to see a lot of dance shows each year, the Festival will be a good opportunity for me to get out and explore a greater range of shows, and be inspired by and learn from other art forms. I hope meeting the other Young Creatives will open conversations about how they approach their art forms. I look forward to learning from a range of professionals but also young people who are driven in their respective fields. I hope that at the end of the Festival I can take ideas from other disciplines and put them into my own practice.

At the end of the year, once I’ve graduated school, I hope to continue my dance training at a tertiary institution.  From there I don’t really know what the future has in store for me. I love dancing and I highly doubt that’s going to change any time soon, but I also love creating and exploring the millions of different ideas that are floating around in my head and I hope I can find an artistic outlet where I can dance and express my creative side.
