My least favourite part of writing and playing music is trying to describe how it sounds to other people! I usually say, 'Eh, just look it up and see if you like it or not,' because I get so flustered with this question.
Very young. I started writing my own songs in the first grade. I always thought I’d be a musician; it wasn’t until I was much older that my dream started to look scary. I’ve always blindly knew I could do it, even though it’s the craziest life choice ever in a lot of ways.
I went to go see The Monkees with my neighbours when I was around seven. I didn’t really like it, but I loved watching the musicians play; I was totally mesmerised.
Be confident! Be feminine, be yourself, be brave.
Recently, it’s been The Meters and Carole King. Or I always default back to Gal Costa.
I just read Attached: The New Science of Adult Attachment and How It Can Help You Find – and Keep – Love and it was eye-opening. It’s about learning more about your relationship attachment style and being aware of others’ attachment styles when they are in a relationship with you. It’s a very intense book to swallow with homework at the end of each chapter. I definitely learned a lot about myself and the people who I’m attracted to.
I’d love to have dinner with Karen Carpenter. I wouldn’t want to ask her anything, I would just want to sing with her and have her play drums.
