About

During the Perth Writers Festival and in collaboration with PIAF’s film program, we ask three writers to select a film – from any era – that has inspired them.

Each writer will give a brief introduction to the film and explain how it has influenced them before it is screened at the Dolphin Theatre.

Fri 19 Feb, 5.30pm
A Hard Days Night | (Trailer)
Cast: John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, Ringo Starr
DIRECTOR RICHARD LESTER, 87 mins, G

James Bradley shares his love for The Beatles’ joyous 1964 escapade from Liverpool to London. The film reveals much about Britain in the early 60s as well as the amazing dynamic between the ‘fab four’.

Sat 20 Feb, 5.30–7.30pm
The Servant (Trailer)
Cast: Dirk Bogarde, James Fox, Sarah Miles, Wendy Craig
DIRECTOR JOSEPH LOSEY, 116 mins, CTC

Patrick deWitt discusses Hollywood exile Joseph Losey’s 1963 London-set comedic psychodrama, in which Dirk Bogarde’s obsequious servant invades the life and mind of a louche aristocrat.

Sun 21 Feb, 5.30–7.30pm
The Philadelphia Story | (Trailer)
Cast: Cary Grant, Katharine Hepburn, James Stewart, Ruth Hussey
DIRECTOR GEORGE CUKOR, 112 mins, PG

Lauren Groff introduces this delicious Hollywood battle of the sexes. The Philadelphia Story is a romantic farce about a divorcee socialite facing scandal – were Grant and Hepburn ever better? We think not.
