About

Mamang Koort – Heart of the Whale is a new exhibition focusing on Albany’s Princess Royal Harbour. A group of five Indigenous and non-Indigenous visual artists have worked in close collaboration since May to produce artworks built on collective memory and shared experiences of harbour objects and sites.

Using objects taken from the harbour, the artists have allowed the wind and water to produce markings on them in an automative creative process. The resulting works on paper and canvas celebrate small details that speak of the tides, weather, colours, textures, and sounds found in the Albany Harbour and the aesthetics of two different cultures with a shared love of this special place.
